- Tighten all hardware. It must be firmly against, but not crushing the timber. Do not over-tighten the hardware as it will crush the fibres of the timber resulting in splitting of the boards and splinters. Adjust if appropriate.
- Check for sharp edges or protruding screw threads. Remove any sharp edges with a metal file, add washers, or replace them if required.
- Control metal parts for rust. If found, sand and repaint using a non-lead paint.
- Check if the swing hangers are secure and orientated correctly. Squeaking of swing hangers can be solved by lubrication with vegetable oil. Replace metal parts and or swing hangers that show severe corrosion or heavy wear and tear.
- Check if your playground equipment is still secured to the ground. Examine the ground anchors for looseness, damage, or deterioration. They should firmly anchor the playground equipment to the ground during use. Be sure that the ground anchors do not stick out of the ground in a way that causes a tripping hazard, and that concrete footing is not exposed. Re-secure and or replace if necessary.
