Why does cracking occur in the timber parts?

Wood is a natural material, meaning no two pieces are exactly the same. Each piece has its own unique characteristics and reacts differently to changes in the weather.

When wood is exposed to outdoor elements, it can develop something called “wood checks.”

What Are Wood Checks?

  • Checks are small separations along the grain of the wood caused by changes in temperature and moisture.

  • These are not actual cracks but are simply natural changes in the wood fibres as they adjust to different conditions.

  • Wood checks do not affect the strength or durability of your playground equipment and are not covered under warranty.

By understanding that checks are a normal part of how wood naturally ages, you can be assured that your playset remains safe and strong for years of fun!
