What hazards should I be aware of when using my Jungle Gym?

At Jungle Gym, we’re dedicated to creating a safe and fun environment for your children. To help you ensure safety, here’s a detailed guide to the potential hazards and how to address them:

Choking

  • Our assembly packs contain small parts that may pose a choking hazard.

  • Tip: Keep small children away from the installation area until the playground is fully assembled.

Cutting, Pinching, and Puncture Hazards

  • Sand down any sharp or rough edges on timber parts, and remove splinters.

  • Prevent pinch hazards by ensuring no scissor-like pinching points are created between angled stairs, ramps, or other solid parts.

Entanglement

  • Risks can arise from drawstrings, loose clothing, or hair near slides, poles, or roofs.

  • Tip: Avoid clothing with drawstrings and ensure there are no V-shaped gaps in the structure.

Entrapment

  • Prevent finger, hand, or limb entrapment by checking for:

    • Gaps deeper than 10mm and between 7–12mm for fingers.

    • Openings between 130–230mm for heads and torsos.

  • Tip: Avoid helmets on the equipment and ensure all gaps meet safety guidelines.

Falling

  • Hard surfaces like concrete, asphalt, dirt, and grass increase the risk of serious injuries from falls.

  • Tip: Install the climbing frame on impact-absorbing surfaces.

  • Note: Jungle Gym equipment is unsuitable for children under 3 years old and has a critical fall height of 145cm.

Tipping Over

  • Unstable installation or improper anchoring can cause equipment to tip, especially during heavy use.

  • Tip: Follow assembly instructions carefully, anchor properly, and observe capacity limits.

Skin Burn

  • Slides exposed to direct southern sunlight can become excessively hot.

  • Tip: Position slides in shaded areas to keep them cool and safe.

Suffocation

  • Plastic packaging poses a suffocation risk.

  • Tip: Keep all plastic away from children and ensure the play area is clear before use.

Strangulation

  • Swing ropes and climbing equipment must not create openings between Ø130–230mm.

  • Tip: Secure ropes at both ends and ensure no loops can form near slides or poles.

Protrusions

  • Watch for exposed threads or screws after installation.

  • Tip: File down sharp edges, add washers if threads protrude, and ensure all screws are flush with the timber surface.

Tripping and Slipping

  • Hazards can arise from uneven surfaces, debris, or wet conditions.

  • Tip: Maintain proper drainage, clear loose items, and check for tree roots, moss, or ice regularly.

By addressing these hazards and following our guidelines, you can create a safer environment where kids can enjoy carefree play. If you have questions or need support, we’re here to help!
